APASPE shares their project story with the Pedasí community

As part of their outreach and communications strategy, last week the board members of APASPE gave a talk to explain their current work on silvopastoral systems in Los Asientos. The Azuero Earth Project hosted the talk, as part of their efforts to disseminate information about ongoing
environmental initiatives in the region. Both the talk and the field visit that followed were well attended.

The presentation, which was jointly delivered by the board members, started with an overview of the region’s environmental problems, and provided the context to explain the group's goals, as well as their ongoing efforts to implement a silvopastoral and reforestation project in Los Asientos. The presentation was followed by a short visit to one of the farms where an intensive silvopastoral system (ISS) demonstration plot is being established. After a brief introduction of the area, farm owner Clímaco Barrios explained what he has done so far to establish the system, as well as the plans for its management once the system is working. Participants had lots of questions, which were addressed by different board members, all of whom have been actively involved throughout the process. Special credit goes to Jacob Slusser, Peace Corps Volunteer who has been working with the group since August, providing technical guidance and tons of motivation, including the preparation and facilitation of this talk.

APASPE comparte la historia de su proyecto con la comunidad de Pedasí 

Como parte de su estrategia de comunicación y divulgación, la semana pasada los miembros de la junta directiva de APASPE dieron una charla para explicar su trabajo actual con sistemas silvopastoriles en Los Asientos. La charla tuvo lugar en la sede del Azuero Earth Project, organización que está haciendo un esfuerzo por difundir información sobre las iniciativas ambientales en esta región. Tanto la charla como la visita de campo que le siguió contaron con buena asistencia. 

La presentación, que estuvo a cargo de los directivos de APASPE, comenzó presentando un panorama general de los problemas ambientales de la región, como contexto para explicar los objetivos del grupo, y y sus esfuerzos para implementar un proyecto silvopastoril y de reforestación en Los Asientos. La charla fue seguida de una visita breve a la de las fincas donde se está estableciendo una parcela demostrativa de sistema silvopastoril intensivo (SSi). Tras una breve introducción a la zona, Clímaco Barrios, propietario de la finca, explicó qué ha hecho hasta ahora para establecer el sistema, así como los planes para su manejo una vez éste empiece a funcionar. Los participantes hicieron varias preguntas, que fueron abordadas por diferentes miembros de la junta, quiénes han participado activamente durante todo el proceso. Mención especial merece Jacob Slusser, Voluntario del Cuerpo de Paz, quien ha estado trabajando con el grupo desde agosto, brindando asistencia técnica y mucha motivación al grupo, y quien apoyó al grupo a preparar y facilitar este evento.
