ELTI Supports the National Greening Program

The Environmental Leadership and Training Initiative (ELTI), together with the Institute of Tropical Ecology and Environmental Management of the Visayas State University (ITEEM-VSU) and the rest of the Rain Forest Restoration Initiative (RFRI), have developed a series of trainings on
Rainforestation Nursery Establishment and Seedling Production in support of the National Greening Program (NGP). The trainings followed the agreement between the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Foundation for the Philippine Environment-Philippine Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation (FPE-PTFCF), which secured a supply of 50 million native seedlings for 2012 from the RFRI network of people’s organizations.

The 3-day field-based training aims to provide participants with, 1) a thorough understanding of the NGP and the mechanisms for their involvement under the agreement; 2) an overview of Rainforestation, its principles and implementation strategies; and, 3) skills and knowhow to establish native species nurseries, and to collect and raise good quality planting material. The first of the training series was held in Aborlan, Palawan in early August for the Indigenous Peoples Organization partners of the Non-Timber Forest Products-Task Force in northern and southern parts of the province. The second training was held in Daet, Camarines Norte in mid-October for the People’s Organization partners of the Philippine Federation for Environmental Concern from the provinces of Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Sorsogon. The training series will continue in 2013 for the FPE-PTFCF Mindanao PO partners.

ELTI Apoya al Programa Nacional Verde

La Iniciativa de Liderazgo y Capacitación Ambiental (ELTI), junto con el Instituto de Ecología Tropical y Manejo Ambiental de la Universidad Estatal de Visayas (ITEEM-VSU) así como el resto de la Iniciativa en Restauración de Bosques Húmedos (RFRI), han desarrollado una serie de capacitaciones sobre establecimiento de viveros y producción de plántulas para apoyar el Programa Nacional Verde (NGP). Las capacitaciones surgieron luego del acuerdo firmado entre el Departamento de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales y la Fundación para el Medio Ambiente Filipino-Fundación para la Conservación e Bosques Tropicales (FPE-PTFCF), que aseguró el suministro de 50 millones de plántulas nativas para 2012 por parte de la red de organizaciones civiles de la red RFRI. 

El curso de campo de 3 días tiene como objetivos proporcionar a los participantes: 1) un conocimiento profundo del NGP y los mecanismos para su participación en el acuerdo; 2) una descripción general de Rainforestation, sus principios y estrategias para su implementación; y, 3) las habilidades y conocimientos para establecer viveros de especies nativas, así como recolectar y producir material vegetal de buena calidad. El primero de la serie de cursos se llevó a cabo en Aborlan, Palawan, a principios de agosto dirigido a los miembros de organizaciones indpigenas que pertenecen a la Fuerza de Trabajo en Productos Forestales No Maderablesen el norte y sur de la provincia. La segunda capacitación se llevó a cabo en Daet, Camarines Norte a mediados de octubre, dirigida a los socios de la Federación Filipina para la Conciencia Ambiental en las provincias de Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, y Sorsogon. La serie de capacitaciones continuará en 2013 para los socios de organizaciones indígenas de FPE-PTFCF en Mindanao.
