Rene Vendiola Wins Prestigious Award!

We are thrilled to announce that on March 22, 2012, Mr. Rene “Nong Ite” Vendiola won the prestigious Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) Award in the Exemplary Individual category for his work on Rainforestation in Negros Oriental, Philippines. Rene was selected among 300
nominees. The Triennial RAFI Awards recognize individuals and organizations “whose efforts bring about change and enhance the quality of life of various groups and communities”, and is considered the premier social award in the Visayas and Mindanao. Rene, a former kaingin (slash-and-burn) farmer, is a committed advocate of rainforestation, an approach to native species reforestation that seeks to achieve forest restoration for human livelihoods, biodiversity conservation and the provision of ecosystem services. He took part in the Rainforestation National Trainers Training held by ELTI and partner Visayas State University in April 2009, and has since used his mountain farm, Liptong Woodland, as a repository of native, endemic tree species and as a training facility on rainforestation and sustainable farming. As part of the award, Rene won a cash prize which he will use to build and manage a nursery for native tree species.

Rene, congratulations from the ELTI community!

  1. As a leader you must be able to set goals and determine priorities that lead to results. Leaders who
produce results not only drive value to the business, but increase their value to the organization.
